Sourcing Watches

Rest assured, we do the hard work to ensure your timepiece is exactly what it should be.

Criteria for sourcing Luxury Watches

When sourcing watches for either a stock piece or a specific piece for a customer, the main things that we look for are authenticity, condition and market desirability (brand, model and rarity) when purchasing second hand luxury watches. A full set of documentation (box and papers) are highly valued as it substantiates these factors.

Authenticity and Provenance

Verification

This is the most crucial step. Our experts perform rigorous inspections, including checking serial and model numbers against brand records, examining movement mechanics and use high powered magnification to spot subtle details that counterfeiters miss. If we are in any doubt they get returned to the manufacturer for authentication.

Documentation

The original box, warranty card, instruction booklet, swing tags when applicable etc, original purchase receipts and certificates of authenticity all add significant value and provide piece of mind regarding the watches origin and legitimacy.

Background Checks

We will always check to make sure that the watch has not been lost or stolen by using databases like The Watch Register and Enquirus.

Physical and Mechanical Condition

Aesthetic Condition

We look for signs of wear and tear, assessing scratches, dents, condition of the bracelet and overall cosmetic appearance of each watch. Over polishing is a red flag as it can round of sharp edges and reduce value.

Functionality

The movement is inspected and tested for performance using manufacturers charts, including power reserve, time regulation and the correct operation of all components (date, chronograph etc).

Service History

A documented service history (if of the age that servicing is required) ideally from the original manufacturer or at least a qualified watchmaker, this indicates proper care and maintenance. The absence of recent service records may lead to us factoring in the cost of a full service from the manufacturer.

Original Parts

Watches that retain there original parts (dial, hands, bezel,bracelet/strap etc) are generally more desirable and valuable than those with replacement or aftermarket parts, this is especially valid for vintage pieces.

Market Factors and Desirability

Brand Reputation and Demand

Watches from top tier brands like Rolex, Patek Phillipe and Audemars Piguet etc, with a proven history of value retention are highly sought after.

Model and Rarity

Iconic or limited edition models especially those for which demand outstrips supply (eg specific models like the Rolex Daytona and Patek Phillipe Nautilus references) have a strong investment potential.

Market Value

We are continually researching current market trends and compare the watches against similar listings to determine a fair price and assess how quickly it may sell.

Investment Potential

A primary consideration is whether the watch will retain or appreciate over time to determine if it is a sound investment piece for our clients collection.
